The Fund

Who We Are - Research and Educational Fund

The Green Lane Research and Educational Fund was established in 1971 and originally based at Green Lane Hospital. Its aim is to facilitate research and education for the following five departments:

  • Adult Cardiology
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia/Cardiothoracic and Vascular Intensive Care Unit
  • Paediatric and Congenital Cardiac Services
  • Respiratory Medicine

The Green Lane Research and Educational Fund awarded a further four more grants, since our last news update. The grants were awarded to Dr Malcolm Legget, Dr Nigel Lever, Dr Nigel Wilson and Dr Tom Gentles.

Ryan received a $105,000 PhD scholarship to study whether the prevalence of ventilator limitation in adolescents, and how ventilator patterns change during the period of maturation.

John received $50,000 in project funding to support a study to test in a mult-isite randomized-controlled study, if the use of nitric oxide reduces the inflammatory response after cardiopulmonary bypass in children

Nigel Wilson – The creation of a New Zealand Rheumatic Heart Disease Registry

Nigel was award $19,802 to create a contemporary cohort of significant RHD ( moderate and severe RHD) to be known as the New Zealand RHD registry.
